Amazon.com Product Description Whether you're a professional or weekend warrior, the Porter-Cable 557 uses carbide blades, offers a host of cutting options, and delivers precise, reliable results. No matter what type of wood you're working with, this high-performance joiner kit gives you optimum control. Perhaps the most important feature of the 557 is its 7.5 Amp motor--an industry leader--which rotates the blade at 10,000 RPM. There's also an innovative fence system with a pivot point that provides accurate height readings, and a fencing plate for stabilization, centering, and spacing; a keyhole-slotted blade cover and spindle lock for quick and easy blade removal and changing; and seven different cutting settings for a range of fasteners. Additionally, the 557 offers a technologically advanced biscuit for the construction of cabinet face frames. An included four-inch blade makes standard-size cuts, while a two-inch blade easily handles cuts as minute as 1-1/2 inches. Finally, a micro height-adjust knob enables proper biscuit positioning, and a tilting system gives you the freedom to place the fence from zero to 135 degrees. The 557 comes with a 30-day performance certification, and the following: joiner, four-inch carbide blade #5558, two-inch blade #5559, spanner wrench #886041, dust bag #883175, chip deflector #886490, carrying case, and instruction manual.

Plate Joiner Good Value July 3, 2010 Joseph Dianda (San Jose, CA) I have used the joiner four times. Easy to set up and use. It is very accurate. The only negative thing I have found is the exposed springs that control the return of the saw blade, otherwise this would rate five stars. This is not a big deal. Well worth the money.
Better Biscuits June 12, 2010 RODNEY L STANLEY There's an old saying: You get what you pay for. I know things are financially squeaky for most of us these days, but tools should be considered as investments.

It pays off to buy good tools, and the Porter-Cable 557 is a good-un. Right out of the box you can feel the precise assembly of the plates, guides and adjustments.
So far I've used the joiner for two sessions in making an octagonal louvered vent for the attic. On this occasion I joined boards at a 22.5 degree angle, and then another set at more traditional 90. It was surprisingly easy to setup and use.
Be sure and read the manual for the finer adjustments.
I did have to take a sharpie and highlight the center sightline on the clear guard.
Also occasionally pressed the trigger lock by accident, but these are minor.
This is my first Porter-Cable tool. I will be looking at more of this brand in the future.
Plate joiner May 6, 2010 Steven W. Seguin This is a high qualit tool. Once you get the hang of it, it will be very easy to adjust. It is extremly accurate!
Great Tool April 12, 2010 Bryant Kettle (Utah, USA) This is a great tool for any woodworking enthusiast. My Father has this same model and has enjoyed it for a few years now. I really like that this model will handle the very small biscuts. Other biscut joiner will not do this.
Works so well, almost like cheating... April 6, 2010 Average Joe (SouthEast USA) Owned mine for over 6 years, use it at least once a month on all types of wood and plywood. Still on the original blade and it cuts like a dream. Probably my single favorite power tool because 1. it's idiot proof by design and safe, 2. it is consistent and always aligns properly and 3. It does all the work like a power tool should. I HIGHLY recommend you check out "BISCUIT JOINERY BUILD A BOOKCASE with Frank Klausz". He uses this exact tool and the video is available right here on Amazon. I used mine for years before I saw this video, I learned several cool tricks that made my work faster and more accurate. I always use Porter Cable biscuits with Tightbond glue (spread with acid disposable brushes), never had a joint fail as of yet!
