| 6.6 AMP Power with SJS to Protect Gears The GD0800C is powered by a 6.6 AMP motor that delivers 7,000 to 28,000 RPM with soft start for smooth start-ups. The electronic speed control maintains constant speed under load, and a variable speed control dial allows the user to match the RPM to the application. Labyrinth construction protects the motor with a complex set of channels, prohibiting dust and contamination. In addition, the protective zig-zag varnish seals the motor and bearings from dust and debris by creating a barrier under rotation. The GD0800C is engineered with SJS, an innovation from Makita that protects the gears by automatically disengaging the motor should the grinding wheel accidentally catch or bind.Comfort and Ergonomics The GD0800C weighs just 3.5 pounds and is built with comfort and ergonomic features for extended use. The slender double-neck aluminum gear housing is designed for easy handling, and the slide switch is positioned on the small circumference barrel grip for easy operation. A side handle can be easily installed on the side of the tool. Versatile Design for a Range of Applications The GD0800C is a versatile and powerful die grinder engineered for a range of applications including pipe fittings and small scale grinding. The GD0800C is built for welders, plumbers, ship builders, automotive technicians, HVAC, and general contractors seeking a best-in-class industrial quality die grinder. The GD0800C is just another example of Makita's commitment to innovative technology and best-in-class engineering. About Makita's Super Joint System (SJS)
Super Joint System (SJS) is an innovation from Makita engineering where the motor armature and spiral bevel gear are linked by a coil spring. If the grinding wheel catches or binds, the coil spring relaxes and disengages the gears from the motor. As the grinding wheel stops, the gears and motor are protected. Makita's growing line of SJS-equipped grinders includes models ranging from a 1/4-inch die grinder to a 7-inch angle grinder. | Customer Reviews: Below expectations December 5, 2009 Catherine Lignier (USA) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
I bought this die grinder because is a professional tool, with enough power and of course because is a makita which has great tools, but his one was a true disappointment, in general is a good tool you can get the job done with it, but the main cause of hassle and therefore disappointment is the collet, it comes with a 1/4 inc collet, and the bits will always get stuck no matter what you try, giving such a hard time by applying other tools to get the bits out simply to exchange the previous one. I just dont like tools that need other tools to work properly. It gave me so much troubles, and not to forget that it delays the work.
It's got power December 6, 2007 R. Hoetger (Idyllwild Ca USA) It's a great die grinder plenty of power but a bit on the large size. It's hard to get in to tight corners. I am a cabinet maker and I use it for cutting off stray staples and nails. In this application it is definitely overkill
Excellent professional quality tool! August 10, 2004 K. Juelch (NJ, United States) 24 out of 24 found this review helpful
I'm using this tool for sculpting wood with "Kutzall" type burrs. I have been using a Foredom flex shaft tool for years but was looking for something with a little more guts and power for mass stock removal. The Makita did all this and more--in additon to its raw power I also find the rigidity of the tool helps make even fine cuts more controllable. Not shown in the illustration above is the multi-position removable side handle which adds greatly to the ease of controlling this workhorse. Over the years I have owned many Makita tools, and this die grinder, like all my other Makitas, is a superb tool and a great value.
