4 out of 5 stars Hope it's better than the packaging.   July 8, 2010

This one is a replacement for my other laser guide that finally gave up. Just installed this one and so far works fine.

However, the package that the guide came in was missing a couple of pieces. First it didn't have an allen (hex) wrench although there's a pocket in the package for one. Also, it did have the 'O-Ring' that the instruction booklet says is included.

The summary: This is a great add-on for your miter saw!

The review:
After reading all of the reviews on different laser guides, I was a bit concerned about the accuracy of any of these devices. (A lot of reviews have complained about 1/8-1/4" inaccuracy. True, these are for different models, but I assume all models are all about the same.) But for [...] bucks, I figured it was worth the experiment. Also, I read on a few reviews that these things can be adjusted, so I figured I could always do that.

The guide arrived and I installed it, I was pleased to find that the laser line was *exactly* where the blade cut. This thing is spot on...no need for adjustment! It was easy to install, and fit my off-brand saw with no problems.

I only have two small issues (things of note, really):

1. In bright sunlight, it can be a bit hard to see the line. It is still adequately visible, but not a huge bring line like some reviews might sugget. I assume that all lasers will be about the same in this regard, however. I don't think that Oshlun's guide will be any dimmer than their competitors. Luckily, I live in Seattle where the majority of days are at least a little grey. In that weather this laser guide shines bright! (Also, it is possible that the batteries that shipped with the unit started to weaken in the package. Perhaps if I changed them with the extra set that came with the unit I would find the line brighter.)

2. One needs to activate the saw blade to see the line. Again, it is hard to fault Oshlun for this.....all add-on laser guides act in this manner. It would be very dangerous for them to put a switch on the unit, as that would mean that people were always reaching their hand near the blade to turn it on. And they can't make the laser stay on after the blade stops, because the saw blade needs to rotate in order to produce a line from a single point of light emission. But if you are buying this unit, you should know that this is how these devices work - oshlun and otherwise.

I didn't remove any stars for these things, because I feel that it is still a great product. I just wanted to note them for anyone else interested in purchasing this unit.

Overall though, I would say that this is a great unit. If you are looking for a laser add-on for your miter saw, go for it!

5 out of 5 stars Clean and accurate cuts!   April 25, 2010

This is a great product. Although it is difficult to read the light in bright sunlight conditions, this laser works great! I don't believe any laser would work well in bright conditions so this isn't a major concern. As long as you can shade yourself, you'll see a faint line. Indoors, this laser worked magic as I prepared all my trim and moulding.

I own a 14" Makita miter saw. The hosel is oblong and the laser would not fit initially. All I needed was to mill out a portion of the laser where it contacts the hosel and it fit! I took the laser to a local metalshop and they were able to bore out the corners with a special drill for $10.00. I contacted the manufacturer and they are considering making the modification so the laser will fit on other 'unique' situations also. They appreciated my resourcefulness.

All in all I am very happy with this product. It will be with my saw forever.

5 out of 5 stars Double laser guide   February 17, 2010

Works great....clear, crisp line right where the blade cuts.

In addition to the LG-M01 (for the mitre saw), I also bought the LG-R01 (for the radial arm saw). On my Makita LS-1013 10" sliding compound mitre saw, I replaced the inner arbor washer with the R01 and replaced the outer arbor washer with the M01. In order to clear the blade guard, I used one of the arbor bolts which came with the product as it had a slightly thinner head. I also needed to add a small washer between the blade guard and the blade housing to account for the extra thickness of the R01 (when compared with the old inner washer).

Now I have a crisp double laser line which allows me to make cuts easily on either side of the blade....very handy. Always check with your saw manufacturer for safety guidance.

5 out of 5 stars Great New Toy   January 21, 2010

I just received the Oshlun LG-M01 Laser saw guide that I purchased after considering other similar devices (Irwin Industrial Tools 3061001 Miter Saw Laser Guide and the InfiniterĀ® RS-1 Laser Cutting Guide). I purchased the Oshlun after speaking to a company representative who told me that the LG-M01 is the latest generation of these lasers, and is both smaller and brighter than the Irwin or Infiniter.

Thus far I am very impressed with the laser. Installation was easy and the laser line is indeed very bright. While I have not yet tested it outside, I am confident that it will be useful even in sunlight. As described, the laser line falls slightly to the left of the cut, but once appropriate accomidation is made for this, it works as advertised.

I mounted it on my Metabo KGS 255 compound miter saw by using one of the included bolts. There were no problems with blade clearance and no need to adjust the location of the projected beam. The installation instructions said that an "included" o-ring might be needed to mount the laser on some saws, but no such o-ring was in the package. Fortunately, this was not needed for my saw. I am so happy with this laser-guide, I am buying several more and sending them to as gifts to friends.
