| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com Review Purist furniture makers frown on the plate joiner, or biscuit joiner as it's often called, but this model might change a few minds. The joinery ease is unparalleled with this method, and Makita really knows its business. This model offers a 10,000 rpm, 5.6 amp motor, six cutting depths for different biscuit sizes, and a precision fence that angles with positive stops at 0, 45, and 90 degrees. Changing biscuit sizes is as quick and easy as turning the adjustment dial. The rack-and-pinion fence's action is as smooth as any on the market at this level, and our test cuts were clean and dead-on accurate. Sure, you can keep on cutting mortise and tenon joints if you want to, but the smart woodworker is taking one of these home. For us, it falls squarely into the gotta-get-one category. --Kris Jensen-Van Heste

does what I need it to do June 5, 2010 D. Millman I like this plate jointer. I have about 500 biscuits cut with this now, and I am happy with it. It's not made like a fine swiss watch by any means, but it does work well for me if I take a little care setting it up, it performs as expected. You have to be a little gentle with setting up the depth "fence", but it lines right up if you use reasonable care. So far no problems that would change my satisfaction with buying it. I run a lot of makita tools and love them all
Very Pleased with Performance March 29, 2010 D. Flenner (Charleston, SC USA) After researching the performance of many different biscuit joiners I purchased this particular one because of a recommendation in an article from Fine Woodworking and the opinion of many reviews I had read. According to the article and the opinions, the Makita seems to be the most accurate of the lower-priced plate joiners. It also has a host of features that are very nice including a rack-and-pinion adjustment for the height of the plate.
After using it multiple times over the past few weeks that I've owned it, I am very pleased each time with how nicely it cuts and how well it collects dust. The boards I'm gluing together fit very nicely (the fit is snug, but only a minimal amount of pressure is necessary) and the panels come out nearly dead-flat every single time.
I would highly recommend this product to anyone interested in purchasing a biscuit joiner.
Very Good Plate Joiner February 3, 2009 D. Sadler 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Well built and very well designed. Adjustments work well and they hold in place securely with no play. It cuts smooth and quick. Very happy with this product.
Very Happy December 6, 2008 Wendy Register 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
As a first time biscuit joiner I studied the Amazon reviews and decided on this one. I am not disappointed! I've only done edge joining but I'm totally happy with my project thus far, I would purchase this item again if necessary. The chip bag needs to be aimed down to the floor and plan on emptying it after 7 cuts using .20 setting otherwise the collection area behind the fence jams up with shavings and is difficult to clear. This unit seems very safe as I have used it. I've only used the unit with pine wood so far. I don't feel like there's much chance I could get injured from this tool. I hold the unit by the barrel to plunge and hold the top left corner down with my finger (right handed) to assure level cut into the face of the joint edge. Very happy with this purchase and the packaging is of course Amazon quality...great!
Awesome tool October 25, 2008 She (Chicagoland, Illinois) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I chose this model based on the Amazon reviews and previous experience with a makita random orbital palm sander. The other reviews do a great job listing the details, pros and cons.
I had never used a plate joiner before but was up and running in 3 minutes. I was doing a project with Ipe (aka Ironwood). Ipe is one of the densest woods available and just kills regular blades. I plowed through the project quickly. The motor didn't break a sweat and carbide cutters were begging for more.
If you do any woodworking at all, just buy one.
